this is an excellent guide, so i figured everyone should be able to read it.
please thank ultra for it.
===========Eagle==========
Eagle
Description: The Eagle is the fastest of the heavy 3, which consists of the Eagle, the Sabre and the Titan. Out of these three the Eagle is the most common and often the most deadly. The Eagle blends the mixture of heavy class 10 weapons and a high light-fighter style of turning and movement to create a powerful mixture of speed and death. It’s biggest disadvantage is both its hull and how it handles. The hull is the weakest of the 3 and is highly prone to a 1 hit kill with a cannonball missile. Its agility can create a problem as it is highly agile and this situation can make aiming a bit of a problem as the aim is sensitive, so a sudden move can make the difference between a win and a loss.
Turning: This is one fast and easy ship to turn. There are several methods.
1) Drift turn: As you pass your enemy hit the kill engine button to let the ship drift, as it drifts turn it to face your enemy, to make maximum use of this keep your engines killed and make heavy use of your afterburners. At about 120 degrees through the turn hit your thruster button and keep your finger on it until it’s time to turn again.
2) Reverse turn: Very rarely used and prone to being struck by enemy mines. As soon as you pass the enemy hit the reverse key and bring your ship around to face them. This method is risky and makes you an easy target in a dogfight, but not a dual.
3) Strafe turn: Pretty much the same as Reverse turn, except you make use of the strafe button instead of the reverse button. When you pass the enemy press one of the strafe buttons and move the ship in the opposite direction to the button your pressing. IE If you strafe left, then you turn to the right. This is extremely prone to mines and other gunfire.
Gun Positions: Placing your guns strategically is a sure way to win. If you’re an all guns or a missile user one thing is a must, place one shield killer and one nomad on the wep slots which are directly on the hull and not on the wings. This will help to still be a pain in the ass even if you do lose your wings. Other than that there isn’t much to just guns, but if you use a missile system then place the missile on the outer section of the wings (the tips) and when you pass the enemy get them to pass on the same side as you missile, IE if your missile is on the left get them to pass you on the left.
Reccomended Weapons: It is 100% up to the user and is dependant on the fighting style they have, you will never find 2 people with the same style. For my setup I use 2 tiz, 3 blasters and a cannonball. With a high refire rate the chances of hitting your target are increased. But refire rate is proportional to damage, so slower weapons do more damage. It’s up to the user on how they fight to choose weapons appropriate for them. Also do NOT mix different projectile speeds unless you are highly skilled at it. Dif projectile speeds will seriously mess with your aim, and in battle you want your scopes to be perfect.
Tactics for: Use speed to your advantage, the faster you are the harder you are to hit, and when you make a charge, keep your movements random and do not follow a patern, this makes it too easy for the enemy to hit you. Missile timing will be covered in another part of this document.
Tactics Against: There are 2 points where they must have a smooth patern movement, the passing point and the turn, turn fast and hit them hard at these points. Also firing a cruise disrupter when they turn will mess their turn up and give you a second or two to do some major damage to them.
That’s it for the Eagle, any questions feel free to ask and if any of it confused you I will be more than happy to show you in-game.
================Weapon Systems===============
Weapon Systems Expanded: Like geoff said it is 100% up to the user on what weapons you use. But some people are not confident with there choices so here is some of the most basic set ups.
2x Tizona Del Cids
2x Nomad Energy Blasters
2x Nomad Energy Cannons
This is the most common set up you will see with slight veryations like 4x Nomad Energy Cannons/Blasters.
You can drop the shield in only 1 pass(duel) if you hit them enough times.
It is quite effective and takes next to no time to learn how to use.
This is the standard Eagle Setup given out by lo4
1x Tizona Del Cid
1x Cannonball Missile Launcher
2x Nomad Energy Cannons
2x Nomad Energy Blasters
For those who like to wait for the 'right' time. It might take 2 pass's(duel) to drop there shields but once there down there ******. As there about to pass you drop a missile(make sure there shield is down or its useless) and it *should* kill them instantly. This is a fairly expensive setup as to get 50 ammo for the Cannonball Missile launcher is just over $300,000.
Upon Request this setup can be handed out by store
2x Tizona Del Cids
2x CODENAME WEAPON(codes for short)
2x Nomad Energy Cannons OR 2x Nomad Energy Blasters
This is one of the 'harder' setups to use as it requires a litle bit of research. Now im guessing you're wondering what CODENAME WEAPON is. There these rareish weapons that are some of the strongest weapons in the game that you can only get in a wreck.
The reason I said this is a hard setup to use is because you have to research which codes you want to use. I recomend using one with the refire rate/projectile speed of the Nomad Energy Cannon/Nomad Energy Blaster.
This setup you must aquire you're self
unless store has 2 spare codes for you to use
Weapon Aquiresation: Now that i've told you the basic setups you're proberly wondering where to get all these weapons. Now i could say just ask store but im not going to as sometimes the store is not online.
Tizona Del Cid
There is only 1 place to get Tizona Del Cids and that is Trippoli Ship Yard Omicorn Gamma. You need to get the corsair bribe and do 2 missions(give or take) to get a good enough reputation with them to buy it.
WARNING: Corsair's are pirates so expect that there will most likely be a pirate clan like OSG or Assasians in omicorn Gamma
Nomad Energy Cannon
Nomad Energy Blaster
This guns are consider the 'best' guns in the game only because they do strong damage against shield & hull and require NO energy to fire. There not the strongest weapons in the game either.
There are 4 places to get Nomad Weapons. They are
Omicorn Alpha-around the unknown jumphole
Omicorn Gamma-around the unkown jumphole
Upper Nomad (Unknown Alpha)-worst place for nomad's as there is heavy radiation
Lower Nomad(Unknown Gamma)-The best place to go get nomad's as there are 2 planets to dock at.
The Nomad Energy Cannons and the Nomad Energy Blasters are FREE but you have to be lvl.32+ and kill the Nomad Fighters who will drop them. Every no & again lo3 will have go Nomad Hunting. If you have never been Nomad hunting before just ask someone to take you.
CODENAME WEAPONS
These weapons are some of the most powerfull guns in the game. They only come out of wrecks(there are to many to list) so i surgest you download Freelancer Data Storm and look for the wrecks with guns like
SILVERFIRE
DIAMONDBACK
etc. I personaly use Silverfires because I like the look of them.
CannonballMissile Launcher
These are the strongest missiles in the game. You can get them at a few different place's but im only going to list 2. Planet Crete Omicorn Gamma(corsairs) and Planet Malta Omicorn Alpha(Outcasts)
Optional acceseries:
Now these seperate the n00bs from the Veterans. They are the Mine Droppers Cruise Disrupters Torpedo Launchers and the CounterMeasures. In this section I will be going over the use's of them and the different types of acceseries to help you get the edge in battle.
Mine Droppers
These should be you're 'secondary systems' Meaning you shouldnt rely on these to win the battle. There are 10+ different types of Mine Droppers so I will only tell you about the uses of a mine dropper.
There is no need to have the best mine dropper in the game is it is ****ing expensive to upkeep. You should ALWAYS use the homing mines or there useless and will rarely hit. I surgest using the best homing mine dropper you can buy at Planet New Berlin.
Starkiller Torpedo Launcher
There are 2 types of Torpedos in Freelancer. The Starkiller & the Sunslayer. The Starkiller is weaker but is a hell of alot cheap for ammo($375 each instead of $7,000+) As you're enemy is coming towards you and you've dropped there shield launch a torpedo. If there in a eagle and they have suffered abit of hull damage they should die if it hits. But torpedos are slow and hit 4 out of 10 times.(unless you have skill)
You can get Starkillers nearly everywhere
Sunslayer Torpedo Launcher
There is not much difference from the Starkiller exept this one cost a hell of alot more. and does the most damage out of anything in the game. I do not recomend the Sunslayer unless you have over $5,000,000 on a regular basis.
There is only 1 place to get the Sunslayer Torpedo Launcher it is the bundush base in Frankfurt
I DO NOT USE CRUISE DISRUPTERS AND NEVER HAVE SO I WILL NOT TELL YOU HOW TO USE THEM I WISH SOMEONE WHO USES THEM THOUGH TO WRITE A BREIF GUIDE LIKE I DID ON THEM
Counter Measure Droppers
These babys are a godsend just activate them in you're weapon panel sit back and watch the missiles fly past you. Counter Measures deflect missles torpedos and mines so they dont hit you. Although they sometimes don't work. Also activate them when you go into cruise so cruise disrupters dont work.
There are 3 types of Counter Measure Droppers. CounterMeasure Dropper Imp.CounterMeasure Dropper and Adv.CounterMeasure Dropper always use the Adv.CounterMeasure Dopper
You can Buy Counter Measure Droppers Everywhere
Remember there's not only 1 way to outfit you're ship. This is only a guide not a 'must use these'.
please thank ultra for it.
