Hello everyone Oddball has come through his operations quite well. The last one was a real drain on him but he is talking today and has his sence of humour back. He is giving the nurses a hard time too He has lost the use of his left arm and maybe the leg too. We have been told that this is only temporary and he should regain full use of it over time. I printed off and have passed on all of the well wishes posted here and we would both like to say a big heartfelt thank you to you all for the great support and messages, they have been truely great. We were really surprised and touched by them all. Oddball always said you guys were a great bunch of people and Freelancer was so different to the other online games. How right he was. Thank you all once again. I'm heading back to the hospital tomorrow. Guess what? He's asked me to bring the laptop with me so he can check out the forums hahaha love, Rose

Dear Steve and Rose,
For your sake Rose, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nigel Richards (aka Cpt Planet). I am an Administrator on GOI.
I have only just got news of this, and i am sorry i did not find out earlier. One of the things we pride ourselves on, at GOI, is the community we are creating more so than the game itself. Many people have formed very good relationships due to the service we provide. It is in times such as this that you really see the strength of that said community.
A brief history of myself. I once was diagnosed with a very rare type of cancer. I was given 12 months to live and NO chance of cure. I died twice and lived in hospital in an incubated room for 6 months. That was 11 years ago now. I am totally free of any cancer.
I found that there were two things that were important during that time. These same things apply to your situation.
1. As hard as it may be sometimes, do not give up. Even the small things that may be irritating cause some people to want to throw the towell in. But, all you need is a glimmer of hope that all will be well very soon...and even that is enough. Some people chose the 'woe is me' approach, and though that may be a fair question...it does the mind no good. Why? because that simple question has negative conatations to it, not positive. Be positive mate.
2. Allow others to be strong for you. When you have friends around you that are constantly thinking of you and praying for your health, their strength helps you beyond what words can describe. But it can only help you if you allow them to be strong for you. I know i speak for all of the GOI community that has been formed by the service of Freelancer when i say this. We WILL be strong for you! You have our thoughts and prayers. Not only will we be strong for you, but also for your wife and your family.
Steve, we are thinking of you and wish you a speedy recovery.
With thoughts and prayers,
Nigel Richards, GOI

I am VERY relieved to hear you pulled through, steve. We have all been biting our nails here, just itching to see what had happened. Having that ''Fingers Cross for Oddball" sign up for so long really began to worry me. But i cant even describe how much we all are happy for you, m8. Rose, thank you so much for taking the time to inform UCoS of steve's condition. And again thank you for relaying our messages to him. We are all in debt to you. When i was reading cpt planet's post, i realised how critical will power was in contribution to survival. And this is what has kept me smiling for the past hour and a half. Oddball, you damn deserve this... Medal of HonorThe Medal of Honor is the highest decoration that an officer of the United Coalition can achieve. It represents exceptional and outstanding service in the fields of bravery, dedication and honor.your showcase is being updated as we speak. And rose, you have inspired me to create a new set of civilian medals that will be complete within the month. On that day you will be awarded the highest honour. Get well soon oddball, your missing all the fun here . Besides, its amazingly boring without ya. Oh, and take it easy with the nurses, lol.

It is probably pretty safe to say that you have no clue who I am but I am sooo happy and relieved to hear that you are going to pull through it Oddball. A big thankyou also to Rose for keeping us informed on Oddball's condition. The bravery and courage you have both shown during this time has been an inspiration to us all. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say that we have been truly blessed to have been given two such great people to our FL community. You can both count on our continuing support and best wishes during this trialling time. Congratulations on receiving the Medal of Honour Oddball, I don’t think we could have found anyone more deserving. You have faced one of the greatest challenges this life can throw down at you and you pwned its ass Get well soon dude

To Oddball and Rose, I dont think i have ever met you mate. You would only know of me as the Leader of Atreides. Around ten years my uncle suffered from a very similar thing that has happened to you. I know firsthand how hard it can be on family, and have seen the road you need to walk to recovery. To hear that you have made it through the operations is awesome . Its all smooth sailing from here, you'll be better in no time. When you return to active flight duty, make sure you say hi. On Behalf of all Atreides, Good Luck and Get Well soon. Duke Usul Atreides

Oddball, my only interation with yourself has been through GOI, but that doesn't make it any less significant. We pride ourselves on the relationships and community we have forged, and it is in times such as this that we put aside the fun 'n' games and get behind those that need it. I wish you a complete and speedy recovery, and look forward to seeing you fly again. Cheers

Oh wow. I'm a little teary. Tissue time. I am overwhelmed by the sentiment and wellwishes you have all sent Steve and myself. The posts and messages of support have been fantastic. I am off shortly to catch my plane and I will print out and take all of these with me. I have been unable to talk with him on the phone yet today as he is not too good at the moment so I haven't told him about all of this. He will get such a kick out of it. Thank you all. *group hug* A special extra hug to Archimedes and Blackhawk for the wonderful gestures. A medal of honour, wow. I'm sure he will be as amazed by all this as I am. I will post again when I return next week. All the best. Rose

I've only met oddball a couple of times, and mainly that was shooting with secret characters . Regardless, as a member of GOI I still wish him the very best recovery . Not only do I hope oddball recovers his physical health, but I also especially hope that who he is and what he can do will not be overly effected. I know that with such a supporting person by his side as you Rose, he'll get through no matter what happens And to all the rest of you, I am proud of you too. This kind of thing really shows that GOI Freelancer isn't just a game, it's also a community. I think it really is something special to know people who have never met you, and probably never will, are still caring about you and wishing you well. <[Atreides]>Blakmane
